The SARS annual EMP501 submission period opens on Tuesday, 1 April and runs until Saturday, 31 May.

Do not do the submission before 1 April. If you do the submission before the official opening date, you may incur penalties. This is because the latest software updates in efiling, E@syFile and your payroll systems will only be available from 1 April. If the submission is done before 1 April, we highly recommend re-doing it to avoid penalties.
If you wish to attempt the submission yourself, please ensure that you are on the latest version of your payroll software. Do not generate the IRP5 certificates unless you're on the latest software version. The latest version contains important changes to SARS's transaction codes.
