The SARS biannual EMP501 submission period opens on Monday, 18 September and runs until 31 October.

Do not do the submission before 18 September. If you do the submission before the official opening date, you may incur penalties. This is because the latest software updates in efiling, E@syFile and your payroll systems will only be available from 15 September. If the submission is done before 15 September, we highly recommend re-doing it to avoid penalties.
If you wish to attempt the submission yourself, please ensure that you are on the latest version of your payroll software. Do not generate the IRP5 certificates unless you're on the latest software version. The latest version contains important changes to SARS's transaction codes.
